Project Title: Play Intervention for Dementia (PID): A Caregiver’s Resource

What is the issue?

More seniors are aging at home with family caregivers, rather than in long-term care homes. We created a tool called Play Intervention for Dementia that uses play activities to stimulate brain health. Seniors attending our program at the Yee Hong Centre for Geriatric Care enjoy the activities

What did we do?

We provided training sessions for caregivers in English, Cantonese, and Mandarin so that they could use the tool at homeWe held a total of 20 training sessions with about 10 to 15 caregivers in each one. We also made an educational video and posted it on our website

What did we find?

A total of 54 caregivers attended the training sessions. They said the sessions helped them gain knowledge and skills to engage their loved ones at home better and increased their confidence. Some session facilitators said the training helped them think in more creative ways, allowing them to better interact with their clients.
