On August 13, 2020, the Centre for Aging + Brain Health Innovation’s (CABHI) Mentorship, Capital and Continuation program (MC2), in partnership with National Bank, presented MC2 Market Readiness, a first-of-its-kind collaboration with California-based accelerator, Berkeley SkyDeck.

MC² Market Readiness provides Ontario-based healthtech companies with direct access to the Silicon Valley ecosystem through entry into Berkeley Sky Deck’s highly competitive Global Innovation Partnership (GIP) program. CABHI will also provide successful applicants with an investment of up to $150,000 CAD towards achieving a key business milestone and raising Seed or Series A funding.

The program weaves together expertise from founder-friendly accelerators, CABHI and Berkeley SkyDeck, to help close the current funding gap for Canadian healthtech startups looking to grow and scale competitively both in Canada and internationally.

During the MC² Market Readiness pilot-phase, CABHI brokered a relationship between Berkeley SkyDeck and two Canadian startups: MindfulGarden, creators of a behaviour modification platform used to de-escalate anxiety in people living with dementia, and Curiato, a digital healthtech company developing smart bed mattress monitoring platforms. The program helped these two companies gain access to key investors in Silicon Valley, industry experts, and opportunities to raise follow-on investments on more favourable terms.

We spoke with Curiato and MindfulGarden to learn more about their experience in the program. Watch this video to hear what they had to say:
