Winnipeg, MB – November 28, 2018 – Research Manitoba and the Baycrest-led Centre for Aging + Brain Health Innovation (CABHI) today announced a new partnership agreement to accelerate the evaluation, promotion, and adoption of innovative products and services that address the needs of older adults with dementia. Up to $400,000 in matching funding is available to be leveraged by health system providers in Manitoba in order to test market-ready innovations, built by innovators from around the world.

This program, in addition to our many other provincial programs and partnerships, will help make those innovations accessible to the older adult population across the country, as well as lead to better health outcomes, and economic benefits overall,” says Dr. Allison Sekuler, Managing Director for CABHI, and Sandra A. Rotman Chair in Cognitive Neuroscience & Vice-President, Research at Baycrest Health Sciences. “Working with our partners to build innovation capacity in seniors’ care across the country and around the world is critical advancing our goal in the prevention and treatment of Alzheimer’s and other dementias.”

Through the Accelerating Innovations for Aging and Brain Health Program, we intend to accelerate the adoption of new innovations to solve the following health challenges:
- Aging in place: solutions that enable older adults with dementia to maximize their choice, independence and quality of life to enable aging in the most appropriate setting.
- Caregiver support: solutions that support caregivers (formal and informal) providing care to older adults with dementia.
- Care coordination and navigation: solutions that help older adults, caregivers and healthcare providers coordinate care and transitions for older adults with dementia.
- Cognitive health: solutions that focus on promoting brain health, the prevention of brain disease, early diagnostics, and slowing the progression of cognitive impairment for older adults.
- Aging Indigenous and Rural populations: solutions that address aging and brain health challenges particularly focusing on indigenous population and individuals in rural and remote areas
