Project Title: Bespoke Baycrest: A Customized Education Module for Family Caregivers of People with Dementia

What is the issue?

People with dementia can experience responsive behaviours due to their condition. Looking after seniors at home with dementia and managing responsive behaviours can lead to burnout among caregivers.

What did we do?

We created a two-part learning activity to help caregivers increase their ability to provide dementia care at home. We divided caregivers into two groups. One group, called the bespoke group, participated in an online education session that covered key topics adjusted to their needs. The other group accessed a module prepared in advance. We asked participants to provide feedback on their experiences through surveys as well as by attending a follow-up session in-person or by telephone.

What did we find?

Participants in both groups enjoyed the education modules and said their confidence in caregiving increased. They asked if other family members and friends could take part in the courses.
