Amplify is CABHI's commercialization and scale-up investment program designed to accelerate the growth of high-potential life sciences companies (broadly defined to include digital health, healthtech, medtech, biotechnology, and other healthcare innovations) developing innovative solutions to improve healthspan, healthy aging, brain health, and dementia care.

  • Innovation Themes

    CABHI’s Innovation Themes ensure our projects and partnerships build upon our mission and help realize our vision. When assessing opportunities, we ensure alignment with our core innovation themes, our cross-cutting innovation themes, and the solution's impact on people affected by dementia.

  • Selection Process

    Online Application: Applications are submitted online and then reviewed and scored by CABHI’s review panel. Shortlisted innovators will be invited to participate in the due diligence and funding review process.

    Due Diligence + Funding Review: The shortlisted innovators selected from the online application process will provide CABHI access to their data room and participate in a due diligence day meeting. This will determine the eligibility for funding/investment from CABHI of up to $600,000 CAD.

    Selection + Contracting: Following a successful due diligence process, CABHI will inform all selected applicants and proceed with contracting (shared below) based on applicant type.

  • Program Eligibility

    Company Eligibility

    Applicants must satisfy all of the following requirements:

    • Company must be incorporated in Ontario or meet the Non-Ontario-Based Applicant Requirements outlined below.

    • Lead applicant must have signing authority for the company.

    • Company must have one of the following:

      • Valuation or valuation cap of at least $10M CAD at the time of application; OR

      • Generated at least $500K CAD in annual recurring revenue (ARR) or revenue during the preceding 12-month period.

        ** Note: Preference will be given to companies that satisfy both A) and B) above.

    • Company must demonstrate meaningful commercial traction and market adoption.

    • Product or solution must align with at least one CABHI Innovation Theme.

    • Product or solution must have freedom to operate and present no known intellectual property infringement risks.

    • The applicant must not be a subsidiary, branch, division, or controlled affiliate of another company or organization.

    • Company must be an independent small or medium-sized enterprise (SME) with no more than 50 full-time employees.

     

    Non-Ontario-Based Applicants

    • Companies incorporated outside of Ontario are eligible to apply, provided they demonstrate a clear intention to commercialize their solution in Ontario and contribute to economic activity within the province.

    • Successful international applicants must establish an Ontario-based legal entity and employ a minimum of one full-time employee in Ontario prior to receiving funding from CABHI.

    • Applicants will be required to demonstrate how the proposed project will support commercialization, job creation, investment attraction, business growth, or other economic benefits within Ontario.

    • Applicants must maintain a Canadian bank account capable of receiving funding disbursements in Canadian dollars.

    Matching Contributions

    Applicants are required to provide matching contributions toward eligible project costs.

    • Minimum matching requirement: 1:1

    • Preference may be given to companies that leverage greater funding from outside sources

    • Applications demonstrating higher levels of matching support may be viewed more favourably during the assessment process.

    • Matching contributions must comply with CABHI's Matching Funds Guideline.

    Eligible Project Activities

    Funding must support commercialization and growth objectives such as:

    • Customer acquisition and sales growth

    • Market expansion and international growth

    • Talent acquisition related to business growth

    • Strategic partnerships and channel development

    • Procurement and adoption agreements

    • Regulatory advancement and market access

    • Product deployment and implementation

    • Revenue growth and commercialization

    • Scaling operational capacity

    • Follow-on investment readiness

    • For life sciences companies;

      • Funding of clinical trials (Post IND approval)

  • Evaluation Criteria

    All applications will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

    Solution (30%)

    • What problem are you solving?

    • What differentiates your solution?

    • How strongly does your solution align with CABHI's mission and innovation themes?

    Commercial Traction (30%)

    • What traction has been achieved to date?

    • What evidence demonstrates product-market fit?

    • How will Amplify funding accelerate growth?

    • What commercialization outcomes are expected?

    Team Experience (20%)

    • Why is your team uniquely positioned to succeed?

    • What evidence demonstrates your ability to execute?

    • What expertise supports your growth strategy?

    Market Opportunity (20%)

    • What is the size and growth potential of the target market?

    • What barriers to adoption exist?

    • Why is your company positioned to succeed?

  • Rules and Obligations
    • CABHI will not obtain ownership rights to intellectual property developed through the project.

    • CABHI reserves the right to disseminate project outcomes and success stories.

    • Companies may not hold more than one active CABHI funding agreement simultaneously.

    • CABHI reserves the right to select applications to maintain a balanced portfolio across innovation themes, geographic regions, company stages, and founder backgrounds.

    • CABHI may terminate negotiations or invite alternate applicants if agreements are not executed within a reasonable period.

    • CABHI reserves the right to modify, suspend, or cancel the program at any time.

    • The final determination of eligibility and funding rests solely with CABHI.
