Leap is a program of the Centre for Aging + Brain Health Innovation (“CABHI”), which creates an online community of older adults/their caregivers (“Leap members”, “you”, “your”, as applicable) to share, learn, collaborate, and advise on solutions that are being developed to make aging better.

We collect your personal information (which identifies you, either as is or when combined with other information), to enable you to join the Leap community, access our website (http://leap-community.com) (“Website”) and engage in our services. By accessing our Website and engaging in our services, you understand and agree to our collection, use and disclosure of your personal information; and that you have read our Terms of Use.

We have contracted with a third-party vendor, Salesforce, a customer relationship management platform, to support the operations of our Website and related services. The Website, through Salesforce, collects, receives and records information on our server logs from your browser including your browsing actions and patterns. This information includes your internet protocol (IP) address, cookie information, the page you requested, login data, browser type and version, and location and operating system and platform. Salesforce shares this information with us. Salesforce’s server is in Phoenix, Arizona. You agree to your personal information being held outside Canada, where privacy laws may offer a different level of protection.

Use: We use your personal information for the purposes identified above, and for promotional, research and analytical purposes but only where you have made specific choices:

  • You have choices on your profile including making all or part of it viewable to other Leap members, and to make your image or name visible when you participate in certain Leap activities (e.g., turning your camera and/or displaying your name at a roundtable or educational session)

  • You agree to receive notifications by email (e.g. an alert when someone comments on your post), or to receive from us information we believe you may be interested in)

  • You consent to being contacted to discuss participating in focus groups or research studies and sharing your opinions or feedback

  • You may unsubscribe from receiving these emails, however, unless you leave the community by deleting your user profile, we may continue to send you account-related updates in order to support your account

Disclosure: We do not sell, rent or otherwise disclose your personal information without your consent for any purpose to external parties, except as required by law, including:

  • To enforce our rights against you or in connection with a breach by you of this policy or the Terms of Use

  • To prevent, investigate or respond to suspected illegal or fraudulent activity or to protect the safety, rights, or property of us, Leap members, or others

  • When required by any law or other legal process (e.g. subpoena or court order)

De-identified and Aggregate Data: We may collect, use and disclose de-identified and aggregate data generated from users who interact with the Website, for promotional, research and analytical purposes and/or to improve user experience on our Website.

Aggregate data may be derived from your personal information but is not considered personal information in law as this data does not directly or indirectly reveal your identity.

Security Safeguards

We have adopted reasonable technical, physical and administrative security measures to safeguard your personal information from unauthorized access, collection, use, disclosure, copying, modification, disposal or destruction, including controlling who has access to the Website and related databases and requiring password protections.

If we believe that the security of your personal information has been compromised, we will notify you using the email address you gave us and/or by posting a notice on our Website. Please let us know of any security concerns, by contacting info@leap-community.com.

Retaining Personal Information

We retain the personal information you give us, for as long as your account is active or in order to provide you with our services, or to comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes and enforce our agreements.

Accuracy, Access and Correction

We rely on you to make sure the personal information you give us is as accurate, complete and up-to-date as necessary for the purposes for which we use it. You have the right to access your personal information held by us or ask us to correct it. To do so, please contact us at info@leap-community.com. In some cases, you can change it yourself (e.g., by amending your user profile).

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time and it will be effective once we post it to the Website.
