Tecumseh council has approved a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Alzheimer Society of Windsor and Essex County (ASWE), marking another step toward the development of a new regional headquarters and dementia-friendly community hub beside Tecumseh Arena. The proposed facility aims to expand access to programs, services, and supports for people living with dementia, care partners, and families across Windsor-Essex.
Plans for the purpose-built space include a two-storey, 20,000-square-foot building and therapeutic garden designed to create an accessible, welcoming environment for individuals living with dementia. The project reflects the growing need for dementia-related services in the region and is intended to help communities better support an aging population.
Under the proposed partnership, ASWE would fund and operate the facility on town-owned land through a long-term lease agreement, while portions of the space would also be available for community programming. Leaders from both organizations have highlighted the project as an opportunity to strengthen local health, recreation, and social supports through collaboration.
