The Government of Canada is investing up to $8.7 million in the Canadian Alliance for Skills and Training in Life Sciences (CASTL) to strengthen workforce development in Canada’s life sciences and biomanufacturing sector. Funded through the Sectoral Workforce Solutions Program, the initiative aims to address skills shortages, support domestic production, and help ensure Canada has the talent needed to produce critical health products, including drugs and vaccines.
Through CASTL’s Supporting Workforce Capacity in Canada’s Biomanufacturing Sector project, up to 1,800 Canadians will receive training and career support. The program will focus on helping mid-career and displaced workers, newcomers, underemployed individuals, and youth develop the skills needed for careers in these growing industries while connecting employers with qualified talent.
The announcement also builds on Canada’s expanding partnership with Ireland in science and technology. As part of this effort, CASTL has signed an agreement with Ireland’s National Institute for Bioprocessing Research and Training to share expertise and strengthen workforce development in the biopharmaceutical and life sciences sectors.
