On June 14, 2025, the Centre for Aging + Brain Health Innovation (CABHI), powered by Baycrest, proudly participated in the G7 Canada Brain Economy Summit in Calgary, Alberta, led by the Canadian Brain Research Strategy (CBRS).
The Summit united more than 100 thought leaders, policymakers, and subject matter experts from across sectors to champion brain capital—the combined power of brain health and brain skills —as a key driver of innovation, workforce resilience, and economic growth.
During the Summit, CABHI’s President and Chief Scientist, Dr. Allison Sekuler, moderated the insightful panel, “Accelerating the Canadian Brain Economy Transition.” Dr. Alice Luo Clayton, CEO of McKnight Brain Research Foundation, David Gow, CEO of the Center for Houston’s Future, and Dr. Valerie Taylor, Chair of Psychiatry at the University of Calgary, Professor at Hotchkiss Brain Institute, and Departmental Science Advisor at Health Canada, emphasized the importance of uniting stakeholders across sectors, leveraging regional strengths, and drawing on global partnerships to help shape a cohesive national strategy for Canada.
In addition to moderating a panel, CABHI demonstrated support for the Summit by co-sponsoring an Innovation Showcase in collaboration with the Ontario Brain Institute and Hotchkiss Brain Institute. The Showcase highlighted cutting-edge research, technology, and solutions that support a healthy brain economy, including:
Mobi Interactive from OM Interactive LTD
During the Showcase, attendees contributed to interactive boards and string mapping activities, to share their ideal vision of a thriving brain economy. They highlighted the following priority areas to support meaningful change:
strong interdisciplinary collaboration
responsible integration of emerging technologies; and
supportive policies and funding.
Collaborative events like the G7 Canada Brain Economy Summit offer CABHI, and our community of innovation, opportunities to demonstrate Canada’s leadership in the global brain economy.
