Launch of the CABHI Science Collaborative (CSC)

The CABHI Science Collaborative (CSC) provides free opportunities for scientists, researchers, and trainees to complement and expand their skill set in innovation and confidently engage with a community of innovators, non-academic sectors (e.g., industry partners), and other diverse stakeholder groups.

Launch of the Fuel program

CABHI's Fuel program offers up to $500,000 CAD and acceleration services to help early/mid-stage researchers and start-up companies with mature solutions achieve research, development, and validation milestones.

Launch of the NextGen Student Innovation Package

This support package is available to student ventures with an aging + brain health focus based out of Campus Linked Accelerators in Canada and contains a subset of CABHI’s acceleration services (AgeTech Curriculum, SAP/Leap engagement, and coaching from CABHI), as well as $2,500 (received upon completion of the curriculum and activities).

Partnership with the Canadian Medical Association (CMA)

CABHI broadens the D+A program's reach this year by expanding to include organizations across Canada. Strategic partnership between CABHI and the CMA. The CMA is complementing CABHI's funding to support innovation adoption, particularly in home healthcare and community-based settings.

CABHI partnered with Saskatchewan Health Research Foundation to provide scale-up funding for four Saskatchewan-based innovative solutions addressing aging and brain health challenges with a focus on rural and Indigenous populations through CABHI's Spark+ program.

MCU invested $1.2 million in the CABHI-supported Learning InterProfessionally Healthcare Accelerator (LIPHA), a virtual learning platform that enhances the onboarding and training of nurses and personal support workers.

The Government of Ontario announced $23.5M in funding for CABHI over five years.

Partnership with Healthcare Excellence Canada (previously the Canadian Foundation for Healthcare Improvement and the Canadian Patient Safety Institute), the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, and health ecosystem partners across Canada

This partnership worked to strengthen pandemic preparedness and response in the LTC+ program, supporting Implementation Science Teams working with 69 long-term care homes from coast to coast.

CABHI launched Spark-ON, created for Ontario-based frontline healthcare workers to develop solutions that benefit older persons, people living with dementia, and their care partners during the COVID-19 pandemic.

CABHI launched KMP2, which was was created to help Canadian clinicians, managers, researchers, and academics drive the adoption of best practices among aging and brain health stakeholder groups across the province and around the world.

The Honourable Jane Philpott, Minister of Health for the Government of Canada, and the Honourable Reza Moridi, Minister of Research, Innovation & Science for the Government of Ontario, announced the total Spark program funding of $1.5 million for 31 award recipients at a Baycrest Health Sciences event.

Creation of the Seniors' Advisory Panel (SAP)

The Seniors’ Advisory Panel launched with six extraordinary seniors to provide important input into project selection and design sprints.

CABHI launched Spark, which was created to support the development of early-stage, grassroots ideas created by point-of-care and service delivery staff.

Launch of the Canadian Centre for Aging and Brain Health Innovation: A new Canadian venture aimed to optimize the cognitive, emotional, and physical well-being of older persons across the country and around the globe.

The Government of Canada's 2015 Budget included a federal investment of $42 million over five years for the creation of the Canadian Centre for Aging and Brain Health Innovation (CC-ABHI). The federal investment combined with commitments from the Baycrest Foundation and 40 leading industry, academic, public sector, and not-for-profit partners brings the total investment in CC-ABHI to $100 million.
