Thirteen Greater Toronto Area companies receive funding to advance AI innovation
The Government of Canada has announced nearly $16.5 million in funding for 13 businesses and organizations across the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) to accelerate artificial intelligence adoption and bring innovative AI technologies to market. The investment, delivered through the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario), is intended to help Canadian companies scale their operations, strengthen competitiveness, and create high-quality jobs while reinforcing the GTA’s position as a leading hub for AI innovation.
The funding supports a diverse range of AI-driven projects across sectors including healthcare, energy, construction, legal technology, transportation, and financial services. Recipients are developing solutions such as AI-powered fertility assessment tools, personalized medical devices, intelligent energy management platforms, automated clinical workflows, drug discovery technologies, and digital systems that streamline building permit approvals. These projects demonstrate how AI is being applied to solve real-world challenges and improve productivity across industries.
A significant portion of the investment will also help strengthen Ontario’s broader AI ecosystem. Organizations such as the Vector Institute will use funding to support startups with data readiness, model development, and deployment programs that help transform AI concepts into commercially viable products. By supporting both emerging companies and established innovators, the government aims to accelerate commercialization, encourage technology adoption, and ensure Canadian-developed AI solutions remain competitive on the global stage.
The announcement reflects Canada's ongoing commitment to fostering homegrown AI innovation, strengthening digital sovereignty, and driving economic growth through advanced technologies. By investing in businesses that are developing and deploying AI solutions, the government is helping build a more innovative and resilient economy while creating opportunities for skilled workers and entrepreneurs throughout the region.
