New VR tech gives assisted living facility residents a chance to explore world

Industry News Dementia Care |

Residents at St. Therese Villa, an assisted living facility in Lethbridge, Alberta, are using innovative virtual reality technology to explore destinations around the world from the comfort of their home. Since April, the facility has introduced the VirCube Flexi VR system, offering immersive travel experiences, interactive activities, and opportunities for residents to revisit meaningful places and memories.

The technology is helping enhance quality of life by reducing feelings of isolation, encouraging engagement, and sparking conversations among residents and staff. For many residents who are no longer able to travel, the VR experiences provide a sense of freedom, connection, and joy while supporting their emotional well-being.

The initiative highlights the growing role of technology in supporting healthy aging and enriching the lives of older persons in care settings through meaningful, person-centred experiences.
