Government of Canada investing in innovation ecosystems and AI to strengthen Saskatchewan’s tech sector

Industry News |

The Government of Canada has announced more than $7.9 million in new funding to strengthen Saskatchewan’s technology and artificial intelligence (AI) ecosystem. The investment includes over $3.7 million for Saskatchewan-based tech incubator Co.Labs and more than $4.1 million for organizations developing and applying AI solutions across the province. The initiative is part of a broader effort to build a more resilient Canadian economy, support innovation, increase productivity, and create high-quality jobs.

A major focus of the funding is helping Saskatchewan start-ups scale and compete globally. Co.Labs will use the investment to expand mentorship and expert-residence programs, strengthen agtech innovation, foster partnerships across the province, and host future Uniting the Prairies conferences. These efforts are designed to connect entrepreneurs with investors, accelerate commercialization, and attract private capital to Saskatchewan’s growing tech sector.

The federal government is also supporting several AI-focused organizations, including Coconut Software, Vendasta, HomeTeam Live Technologies, the University of Regina, and Artificial Intelligence Saskatchewan (AiSK). Projects range from AI-powered business and financial technology platforms to climate and environmental research tools, reflecting the government's goal of increasing AI adoption in key sectors such as agriculture, healthcare, manufacturing, and clean technology.

These investments highlight Saskatchewan’s growing role in Canada’s innovation economy and align with broader national efforts to strengthen domestic AI capabilities, foster commercialization, and ensure Canadian businesses can compete in an increasingly technology-driven global market.
